Bed view

Tonight I slept on the roof of the new house we live in. We moved from the hotel yesterday because Jeff helped us to find a house to stay on. Three more norwegians joined us last evening, so now we all live in the house together. My bed is on the roof. I fell asleep last night watching the moon, and woke up at sunrise with a spectacular view of the ocean.

Today we went for a boat trip. We sailed out to an island. There we did snorkeling, we swimed and explored the island. We ate fresh fish for lunch.

Lamu

On saturday we arived on Lamu. Lamu is a small island outside Kenya. There are no cars here, only donkeys. Yesterday evening we went home to a man named Ali Hippy and ate dinner. He served seafood, and it tasted delicious. After the dinner Ali sang some songs and played keyboard. We had a very good time.

Passioned mango.

There is meny different types of beverages. You have Alvaro, which is kind of a soda without sparkles. Novida, which is kind of the same as Alvaro, and a lot of different Fantas. Fanta pineapple, fanta citrus, fanta black current, fanta orange, and many belives Kenya also have fanta passion. This, however, is not true, I have been looking for it for ever but in the end I found out it is only sold in Tanzania, so next year I will go there to taste it. I felt the situation was a bit hopeless, but I didn’t give over to disspare long. I tryed fresh mango juice, and my life was saved. This beverage is the best I have ever tasted!

Clown group

In the evening we visited a clown group. They did a lot of impressive acrobatic tricks. They were really good. I tried to juggle and managed it quite well to be my first time.

40 thieves.

The third day in Mombasa was spent on the beach named 40 thieves. Here I tred on a sea urchin and some beach boys had to help me remove the spikes.

Ferry

Guilty of murder

Some weeks ago I started tailoring classes at the YMCA-Kisumu-Branch. It’s interesting to learn how to make dresses. I’m not a very patient student. If I do something wrong I get frustrated. Three times it has just been to much and I have committed murders. I’m always sorry afterwords. I never have a good feeling after I have killed. Most of the times I actually feel sad. Today I committed my last murder, but it’s good to know that my murder victims are easy to replace. It’s just bad that I have to by new needles to the sewing machine all the time. I promise you it’s very easy to kill a needle, so tomorrow I’ll be extra careful.

Glue the tree

On wednesday I visited Agape, an organisation who findes and help street boys. Every wednesday and saturday street boys from all over Kisumu comes to the Agape center and gets food and some adult people to talk to. In the garden of Agape the boys can be children and play and have fun. From this place Agape helps the boys to come out of the streets. Some goes back to their families and others can stay in orphanages.

In the garden of Agape there is a tree full of bottles. This bottles was full of glue that some of the boys used to sniff. It’s good to know that some of the street boys gets help and a brighter future. I talked to a voluntary in Agape who told me that he used to be a street boy, before Agape helped him. I liked the children and hope to go back next week.

The turtles

Surprise surprise! I have got a new pet! :) Leonardo the turtle. He lives in the garden of Agape and I see him every wednesday.

Slow syndrome

Today I had a really scary experience. I was walking down the street, and sudanly to african men walking in the same direction passed me! You might think that this is not a big deal, but in Kisumu people walk very slow. Normally I have to walk in zigzag to pass all the slow people. In Norway everyone walk really fast, so I’m getting a bit annoyed when people are getting passed by snails. :) But as I was walking today I realized that I have been infected. I am now a bearer of the slow syndrome.

Tuktuk

Tuktuk is a small vehicle with three seats. In Kisumu there are a lot of them. Sometimes when we go to visit projects we use a tuktuk. On Tuesday we were nine people in one tuktuk. I think we almost sat a new record, but still we could have fitted someone on the roof.
