Glue the tree

On wednesday I visited Agape, an organisation who findes and help street boys. Every wednesday and saturday street boys from all over Kisumu comes to the Agape center and gets food and some adult people to talk to. In the garden of Agape the boys can be children and play and have fun. From this place Agape helps the boys to come out of the streets. Some goes back to their families and others can stay in orphanages.

In the garden of Agape there is a tree full of bottles. This bottles was full of glue that some of the boys used to sniff. It’s good to know that some of the street boys gets help and a brighter future. I talked to a voluntary in Agape who told me that he used to be a street boy, before Agape helped him. I liked the children and hope to go back next week.

The turtles

Surprise surprise! I have got a new pet! :) Leonardo the turtle. He lives in the garden of Agape and I see him every wednesday.

Slow syndrome

Today I had a really scary experience. I was walking down the street, and sudanly to african men walking in the same direction passed me! You might think that this is not a big deal, but in Kisumu people walk very slow. Normally I have to walk in zigzag to pass all the slow people. In Norway everyone walk really fast, so I’m getting a bit annoyed when people are getting passed by snails. :) But as I was walking today I realized that I have been infected. I am now a bearer of the slow syndrome.

Tuktuk

Tuktuk is a small vehicle with three seats. In Kisumu there are a lot of them. Sometimes when we go to visit projects we use a tuktuk. On Tuesday we were nine people in one tuktuk. I think we almost sat a new record, but still we could have fitted someone on the roof.

Waste is wealth

Today we visited a project sponsored by YWCA-Kisumu. The project is lead by a group named BAMATO. After the post election violence some people were left without a place to live. BAMATO helped these to start their own buissness, or gave them the opurtunety to earn some money by working for the group. The main program of the group is to recycle plastic. They pay 15 Kennian shillings per kg with used plastic waste. They sort the different types of plastic, and then they make new things out of it. They make everything from jewlries to curtains and baisens. I think this is such a good idea. In Kisumu the wate- collecting system is not well developed. This group helps people to earn money at the same time as they keep the environment clean. It’s fantastic! Don’t waste the waste.

Stop bugging me!

I’m begging, begging you.

There is something special about me. I’m very attractive. They all love me. Why can’t you leave me alone? Stop bugging me! I feel that they are thinking: «you are too sweet honey, we want to suck your blood!». I can’t sleep, thay are never leaving me alone. Every night I wake up whith a scream. «Joy! there is a big mosquito in my bed!». «No, wait, it was just a dream». In the morning I wake up and my body is itching all over. They bite me everywere. But now I’ve had enough! I wan’t acsept this behaviour any more. The war has began. Today I killed one of the mosquitos and I don’t feel to bad about it.

Smoke on the water

I don’t smoke, I never have and I never will. But I can’t deny that it’s sometimes funny to watch other smoke water pipe. In Nairobi we had a small water pipe party. We drank non alcoholic wine, and the other guys smoked water pipe without nicotine. That is why I find this picture so funny. :)

Sunday, bloody sunday

This weekend I was out dancing in Nairobi. We were on a fantastic club called Black Diamond in a distrikt in Nairobi named Westlands. It was so nice to dance, and I was able to dance all by my self. There were no crazy guys chasing me on the dance floor. All though some would not let me sit in peace when I was having a drink. Kristoffer, Frida and I were rooling the dance floor when a vaitress sudenly droped a botle. It broke and some of the glass went straight in to my foot. There was a lot of blood and I was afraid I had to go to a hospital. In the end I decided to stay out the evening, but on tuesday morning I went to a doctor. He confirmed that everything was OK. There was no inflamation in the wound and I did not need to sew it. But I will get a scar, maybe it will be shaped like a diamond. :)

CFC

In Nairobi the GoCYers got the chance to meet the CFC participants. We went out and explored Nairobi together. The new CFCers we met were named Frida Skiaker, Gina Aas Koren, Håvard Aagesen, Astrid Åne.

Fishing surgery.

Today the boys tasted fish from Lake Victoria. The food looked delicious and it tasted good. Amr from Palestine loved it and ate both his own and Kristoffers fish. Suddenly Amr started coughing and grasped his throat. I got one stuck in my mouth he said. A fish bone cleaved his throat in two. A surgery was necessary and I played the doctor. Kristoffer held the flash light and Angela taped it all. Joy was the responsible one and told us this was no laughing matter when we laughed too much. In the end I got the bone out of Amrs throat, and he survived. :)

We had prepared the fairytale «De tre bukkene bruse», and Chatura Kristoffer and Amr played the goats. Silje was the troll. Afterwards we played games with the children, and in the end they made goats out of clay.
