There are many "love bridges" in different countries. I've seen one in Paris and another in Riga. There is also one in Oslo. This crosses Akerselva between the College of Architecture and the Art Academy. There is still much room for padlocks with names or initials. I found the padlock in the picture extra sweet.
The point
of the padlocks is to "lock" the love between you and your loved one.
When you have attached the padlock you are supposed to thrown the key into the
river. That way, nothing can break your love. There is of course a bit annoying
if your relationship does not last, but I have not yet seen anyone with a pincer
on the bridge, trying to remove a padlock. Perhaps the love-bridge works? J
In Paris they had to remove the padlocks because they were too heavy for
the bridge. This is not yet the case in Oslo, so take a trip to see or contribute
with a padlock if you want to.
